Have A Bunny New Year
Sculpture
Approx. 25*30*30 inches
2023
As an art student, the most painful discomfort is the hours I would spend working on projects triggering back, neck, and shoulder pain. The central motif of this work, the bunnies, came from this desire to be freed from a stiff body, as did the lunar animal for 2023, representing movement, action, and freedom. Originally, I had hoped to create something that reflected the cultural art of my Korean background. With the historical Korean landscape paintings as inspiration, the concept of bunnies flawlessly emerged together.

The overall design and structure of this piece prohibits my body from slouching, as the weight straightens my posture like a prosthetic. The beginning of this piece was unlike most of my creations, extremely unorganized and impromptu; however, ideas branched off of other ideas and I worked left to right, right to left, up and down, down and up until I was finally met with my armor and prosthetic for the new year.
